Fans don’t want any restrictions during the match. But what if the game gets hampered by the misbehavior of fans? The ultimate party stop of the PGA Tour i.e., the Waste Management Phoenix Open has got some new rules following the mishap of the last edition. Last year, fans were seen crossing the ropes and doing humiliating stuff.

Considering that, the officials have announced a ‘zero tolerance’ policy for unruly behavior. Even though the rule might maintain the integrity of the game, fans were seen on the opposite side. On social media, fans show their anger and disagreement with the new rule introduced. This could negatively impact the event, but the player’s roster saved it.

The $9.2 million event after the backlash from fans wasn’t expecting the same hype as the previous season. But the star-studded course will help in the redemption event after the new rule. Sharing about two new players’ confirmation, the WM Phoenix Open posted on X writing, “4th post today. Sorry, not sorry. World #1 Scottie Scheffler and #15 Sahith Theegala are the latest commits to #thepeoplesopen. Scottie’s gunning for his third dub.”

The event teeing off from February 3-9, 2025 at TPC Scottsdale has a long history of 90 years. Even Scottie Scheffler too has a great history with two editions already won by him. Now, with the fans polarized after the rule, his addition could offer a reasonable option to follow the event.

After the confirmation, the tournament chairman Matt Mooney shared, “We’re thrilled to welcome back Scottie, a two-time WM Phoenix Open champion, and Sahith, whose standout debut in 2022 made him an instant fan favorite.” Scheffler, who missed a few events of the 2025 schedule, will be in action back to back, first at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and then at the WM Phoenix Open.

Besides the two golfers announced through the post, many other prominent names will compete for the $9.2 million purse.

The course of 132 golfers will feature 12 of the top 25 and 30 of the top 50 ranked players. Other than Scheffler, another two-time winner will be featuring, i.e., Hideki Matsuyama. The Japanese golfer already had a great start with his record-breaking performance at the Sentry 2025.

With two victories in 2016 and 2017, he will be aiming for the third. But will the defending champion let that happen? It would be a great delight to watch. Nick Taylor, the defending champion, has also confirmed his participation.
