The world #1 may be forced to withdraw from the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club. Scottie Scheffler has been through only five holes of his second round at The Open, but a calamity has struck the PGA Tour pro. Adam Schupak of Golfweek reported on X that the 27-year-old’s beloved caddie is ill.

Because of an undisclosed illness, Ted Scott had been feeling under the weather and was seen lying down between the shots. If Scott’s health worsens as the round progresses, by the end of it, Scheffler might be without a caddie. This unfortunate turn of events could possibly force him to pull out of the last major of the year.

As it stands, it might be nearly impossible for Scheffler to find a new caddie in a completely different country, and moving forward without one will certainly impact his scores at the golf’s oldest major. Amidst the dilemma, Scheffler might choose to make his first-ever withdrawal this season. But what happens, remains to be seen.

This year, Scheffler has won six times on the PGA Tour with Scott on his bag. It would not be wrong to assume that the 39-year-old looper has been proving to be very beneficial for the pro. With Scheffler’s stunning season, even Scott has been having a very lucrative year and has become one of the top bagmen on the PGA Tour. However, one time when Scott was not in his bag, it didn’t turn out well for the 12-time PGA Tour winner.

When Ted Scott was missing from Scottie Scheffler’s bag

The Hoopla of Valhalla involving Scottie Scheffer can never be forgotten, at least not this year. Ahead of the second round, World No. 1 was arrested by the Louisville PD and then was released after spending an hour behind bars. The 27-year-old did play his second round of the PGA Championship with Ted Scott. But on the third day, the looper had other commitments to fulfill.

Scott had to attend his daughter’s graduation ceremony and thus left the 2-time Masters winner to face the event with a PGA Tour chaplain, Brad Payne. Amidst his chaotic case outside the greens and Scott going amiss, Scheffler shot the worst of his four rounds on Saturday of the PGA Championship.

Scheffler carded five bogeys, one double bogey, and five birdies in the third round to be 2 over 73. Eventually, when Scott was back on the bag in the final round, Schffler recovered enough to finish T8 at Valhalla. It seems that without Scott carrying his bag, the 27-year-old’s performance would have become wayward and resulted in an abysmal score.
