Trouble in paradise for Scottie Scheffler? The American pro was spotted having back pain during the opening round of the BMW Championship on Thursday. As he went on to hit the second last hole, he bent over and grabbed his lower back with his left arm. This, of course, was a state of concern. However, it looks like the World’s No. 1 is willing to take the drastic step of continuing his game, overlooking the injury. Scheffler was certain that he would undoubtedly make it through the championship without any hindrance. He even stated, “I’m sure I’ll get some ice on it and stuff and I’ll be totally fine tomorrow.”

He has been in a neck-to-neck competition with Xander Schauffele, with a difference of just a few points in the standings. On one hand, Scottie Scheffler has managed to bag six victories on the American circuit and has held the No. 1 position on the OWGR for over 100 weeks now. On the other hand, World No. 2 has managed to grab victories in two majors this year. As the fight for the FedEx Cup began last week in Memphis, the PGA Tour Pros were asked whose season they would wish to have at the preview presser.

Although the question was indeed a difficult one to answer, most of the PGA Tour pros chose the latter of the two for their decorated wins. From Viktor Hovland and Jason Day to Justin Thomas, winning a major was a bigger highlight than grabbing any number of wins. As the pros entered the penultimate event for the Playoffs, Scottie Scheffler walked in fully prepared to prove them wrong.

As the first round concluded, at the post-round presser, the 28-year-old was asked about his back pain and if it was a hindrance at the St. Jude Championship as well. To this, he dismissively replied, “No. No.” Even last week, he finished the championship with a solo fourth, while Xander Schauffele was at T2. The No. 1 is pretty much aware that he needs to amp up his game, and so he put in all he had on Wednesday at the practice round.

According to Scheffler, he probably has ended up practicing a little too long, hitting one too many balls. He also stated that the pain was not something that began in the opening round of the tournament.

He had already woken up with it on Thursday morning. “It was just a little sore,”  he added. Skipping the BMW Championship and taking a much-needed rest might benefit the American Professional, given that at most he has the probability of dropping down to No. 2 if Schauffele comes in the Top 5. But it looks like that is not an option he wishes to explore.

Scottie Scheffler wants to win them all

On Wednesday, at the preview presser at Castle Pines, Scottie Scheffler revealed that his goal extends beyond merely claiming the FedEx Cup trophy. He shared his broader perspective on approaching each tournament and noted that he values every event equally. “In my head, not one tournament is more important than another. I think of it this way. When I’m practicing at home, I’m practicing and preparing for the season,” said No. 1 on Thursday.

His outlook is evident from his performance throughout the season. Unlike many other Tour pros who focus heavily on the Majors, Scheffler values every tournament beyond just trophies and prizes. “I just love coming out here and competing,” he added.
