Scottie Scheffler is making 2025 look almost unfair. With his win at the Procore Championship in Napa Valley, the world number 1 collected his sixth PGA Tour victory of the season. That kind of streak has only been matched by Tiger Woods since 1983. Scheffler closed out the week at 19-under, adding another trophy to the shelf we’re almost sure will blast soon. But here’s the thing — while this win was historic, Scheffler had another milestone to celebrate. One he forgot to tell his wife about. Oops.

After his round, Scheffler hung around to sign the tournament flags, with his wife Meredith and his 1-year-old son Bennett. Little Ben was trying to mimic his dad, scribbling on the flags with the assumed importance of an adult. “He wants to be an adult. He doesn’t know that he’s a baby,” Scheffler joked to the crowd of reporters, calling his son a “goober” as they captured the sweet scene. But that’s where things went south for Mr. Inevitable (nothing serious, don’t worry). A reporter asks Scheffler about Bennett’s first steps, and he pauses to think about the answer. Meredith, on the other hand, quickly replied, answering that they hadn’t happened yet. That’s when Scottie dropped the bomb. “You were gone,” he said. “You didn’t tell me he had his first steps!” Meredith shot back, half-shocked, half playful.

Turns out, Bennett had taken his proper steps at a time when Meredith was away in France for four days. It happened on day two of her vacation, while Scheffler was with her parents. “Remember?” he asks, to which Meredith replies while laughing, “Yeah, I actually remember that.” But the point by then had already landed. Not good, Dad Scheffler. Scheffler is known to be mischievous with his son like this.

For fans who’ve been following him all year, this wasn’t the first time the Schefflers’ spotlight has been highlighted by Bennett. Back in July at The Open, moments after dad clinched his first Claret Jug at Royal Portrush, Bennett made his own charge onto the green. With a few wobbly steps, he tried to reach his father before tumbling onto the grass. The moment was being caught on live cameras, with an NBC announcer gasping “No!” as Ben fell to the ground. Scheffler then calmly sets the trophy down, scoops his son up, with a wide grin on his face. The father-son duo is more alike than you can think.

Then, when Scheffler won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in May, Meredith told him on camera, “I’m so proud of you.” The moment was raw and intimate with emotion, but then there was little Ben, being passed around in the middle of the family celebration. Then, earlier at the Memorial Tournament, Scheffler walked around posing with his son, who, brace yourself, had pooped all over his back! It didn’t matter to the world number one, though.

Bennett has always been present in the course, supporting his father. During the Par-3 Contest in Augusta this year, the toddler had worn a tiny white jumpsuit with Scheffler written in bold green at the back. For fans, it was the cutest thing ever, but for Ben, it didn’t matter as he continued chewing his collar like he owned the place.

Since Ben was born, Scheffler has never hidden how deeply fatherhood reshaped his life. “I had high expectations of what that would feel like [to be a dad] and those were far exceeded,” he told the BBC. Fellow pro Bryson DeChambeau sums it up pretty well. “I think he [Scheffler] is a family man. He really respects his family, and he believes and wants that to be the most important thing for him.”

Now, with a record-breaking win under him and the support of a family who loves him unconditionally, Scheffler is ready to take one final win at Bethpage Black.

Scottie is all ready for a win at the Ryder Cup

Scottie Scheffler couldn’t have scripted a better tune-up for the Ryder Cup. The World Number 1 stormed back from eight shots down with weekend rounds of 64 and 67 to claim the Procore Championship at Silverado, edging out Ben Griffin by a single stroke. This win has now padded his record-setting year with earnings of over $27.6 million. Griffin nearly forced a playoff, but his 5-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole lipped out, handing Scheffler yet another moment to show off in his already gold-standard resume.

For Scheffler, this week wasn’t about winning, though. With the Ryder Cup in two weeks, he had been one of the players pushing to keep the US team competitive by making them tee up in the tournament. “We felt it would be a little bit more valuable to get all the guys together here this week to play tournament golf,” he said. He knows that it’s different to practice on your own and to play under pressure in a competition. With four Ryder Cup teammates cracking the top 10 in Napa Valley (JJ Spaun, Griffin, and Cameron Young), Scheffler got exactly what he wanted: a high-intensity test before facing Europe on one of golf’s toughest stages.
