Watching your favorite golfer closely can be a dream for many. However, some may consider closely watching the golf ball move at a speed of more than 100mph dangerous. Sergio Garcia once popped the ring out of a woman’s finger back at the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational!

Back in 2014, the Spaniard arrived at the Firestone Country Club looking for a win. Just a few days before the WGC event, Garcia finished the Open Championship tied at the 2nd position.

However, as he began competing at Akron, he looked impressive, as the 42-year-old topped the leaderboard before heading to the final round. During his impressive third round, Garcia gave the world of golf a rare diamond shot. The shot actually includes diamonds. Not metaphorically, but instead literally!

Sergio Garcia almost cost a woman her wedding ring!

As Garcia pulled the tee shot on the third hole in the penultimate round, he didn’t completely master it as it went on to the crowd. The horrible tee shot resulted in a bogey for the former world number two. However, the poor shot cost much worse to a fan than the golfer.

The shot from Sergio Garcia went on to knock out the diamond out of a woman’s engagement ring. Sir Nick Faldo, who at the time was commentating for CBS, sounded worried for Garcia. “I think Sergio is going to have to dip into his back pocket”, he said. Faldo further added, “That looks like a 6-carater to me”.

Another member of the broadcast team, David Feherty, who was an on-course reporter at the tournament, said, “This could be the most expensive tee shot of all time. A diamond in the rough”. Garcia offered the woman a golf ball, apologized, and then he joined the team searching for the diamond.

He took a second look at the ground after firing his approach shot, then asked a marshal to acquire the woman’s contact information in case the rock wasn’t located. Nonetheless, fortunately for the Spaniard as well as the fan, the gem was found nearly 20 minutes later.

Although Garcia failed to win the event, as he ended up scoring 71 the next day of the incident, a rare occasion with the fan is something the Spanish legend will always cherish from the event. Perhaps, Garcia’s poor shot must have inflated the value of the knocked diamond following the event.
