Phil Mickelson spoke his heart out for Amy Mickelson

The six-time major winner has a heart of gold, and his fans know that. The love between Mickelson and his wife is known very well to the golf world. However, he rarely speaks about his personal life on camera. But the couple couldn’t hide their emotions after Mickelson won his third Masters Tournament at Georgia’s Augusta National. The world witnessed one of the longest hugs in the history of PGA that day when Amy Mickelson ran into Lefty’s arms.

Mickelson explained“It was an emotional high, and we had been through so many emotional lows over the previous 11 months,” He called it a “perfect time” for him to win. A year before, Mickelson had two huge shocks to recover from. His wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2009. And it didn’t stop at that. His mother was diagnosed with the same less than two months later.

During his emotional interview, Mickelson left no stone unturned to praise his ever-supportive wife. He said, “I didn’t need all this to happen to know how lucky I am to have her in my life. She constantly challenges me to be a better person, a better husband, a better father, a better golfer.”

Tiger Woods once sent good wishes for Amy Mickelson

While Amy Mickelson was going through treatment for her cancer, Mickelson received support from his longtime rival Tiger Woods. Woods was still married to Elin Nordegren when Mickelson’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Woods said, “Elin and I wanted to let you know that you and Amy are in our thoughts…Hopefully they will soon find a cure.”

It meant a lot for Mickelson to receive support from his biggest competitor on the field. However, to make things lighter, Mickelson replied using his undying sense of humor. He said, “Yes, thanks for that. And hopefully they’ll soon find a cure for your hook.”

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have been rivals to each other for a long time now. But the two have always been there for each other during hard times. However, it is hard to imagine if we would ever see Woods and Mickelson together on the field ever again.
