‘She Was the Greatest Lady’: Charles Barkley Once Recalled a Hilarious Anecdote Involving Phil Mickelson and His Wife Amy

When Amy introduced her “boyfriend Phil” to Barkley

Mickelson’s wife Amy, who was his girlfriend at the time, was the one who introduced him to Barkley. Describing the funny way he found out about the golf star, Barkley said, “She was the greatest lady… I had a tight schedule, she says to me like ‘Hey, will you play golf with my boyfriend Phil?’, I’m like yeah, yeah ok.”

Barkley, then, had no idea that the Phil his friend Amy was talking about was none other than the golf legend Phil Mickelson! Amy continued to ask Barkley if he was going to play golf with her ‘boyfriend Phil’ every now and then. Barkley kept dodging his friend’s suggestion until one day when he asked Amy what her boyfriend’s name was. Amy’s answer left Barkley in shock as she said, “Phil Mickelson”.

The former NBA player was in shock for a moment and replied, “What? Are you going out with Phil Mickelson?”. Barkley could not believe that he was about to play golf with the golf ace himself. He stated that he wanted to cancel all his plans to play golf with the legend, but had no idea that his friend was dating the man.

Later, jokingly, Barkley told Amy to “Start out with my boyfriend Phil Mickelson”. The two talked about finally playing golf together and Mickelson thanked Barkley for being his partner on the course.
