Golf has seen the rise of many greats with different accomplishments. It would be wrong to omit Sir Nick Faldo from that list. The Englishman had 41 professional victories throughout his career, including six major championships. Despite his achievements, the ex-pro golfer is more widely known for his voice, from his analyst days, which ended earlier this year due to a bizarre reason: TikTok.

Faldo worked for CBS for 16 years as a golf analyst. He first signed with them in 2006 and, in no time, became the heart of the company’s golf coverage. On the 21st of June, Faldo announced his retirement as an analyst.
Nick Faldo was tired of being a follower and wanted to lead
In a recent interview with James Colgan, Faldo revealed his motivation for leaving. He said, “There was a great line on TikTok.” Faldo went on to narrate a story of two rats in a cage with a wheel they could run on. “One can jump on the wheel whenever he wants and go as fast as he likes to go, but the other rat has to go on the wheel when the first rat comes off,” he stated.

The story seemed rather strange until Faldo wisely added in, “You think you don’t have a choice of the race you’re in.” If you’re in the rat race, you don’t,” he said. “But if you’re controlling the speed of the race, you do.”

Faldo was hit hard by the TikTok line. He knew he was the second rat in the story and wanted to change that. “It kind of resonated with me, you know? I want to live at my own pace.” With the TikTok video at the back of his mind, in January he informed the Chairman, Sean McManus, of his decision. It was officially announced to the rest of the world five months later.

What is the ex-golf pro doing now?
Just last week, Faldo partnered up with his son, Matt Faldo, and competed at the PNC Championship. Although the two Englishmen tied for 15th, Nick was more than happy to be there. He was taking things at his own speed now.

He told Colgan at the event that he was tired of “talking golf” and that despite having loved every minute of it, it had run its course. He said, “TV is a great life, but I’ve been on the road since I was 18.” Faldo, now 65, wanted to slow down, enjoy, and move on with his life.
