Professional golfer Michael Block is one of those rare golfers who has enjoyed the fortune of playing on the PGA. In his long-spanning career, he has only played in selected tournaments of the PGA Tour, but whenever he did, all the news was about him. And now, once more, his time in the limelight has come.
Though in his time Block has earned accolades like winning the Southern California PGA Player of the Year award from 2012 to 2022, there is nothing like having the best golfer in the world borrow your club and then make the winning shot with it. And the PGA star witnessed exactly that with Jack Nicklaus just ago, and unsurprisingly, it still has him on edge!

Michael Block reminisces over a once-in-a-lifetime moment with Jack Nicklaus
This year, Block made the biggest headlines of his career when he participated in the 2023 PGA Championship and became the only club professional to make the cut. With regular birdies at three of his first five holes, he gave tough competition to names like Justin Rose and McIlroy and finished 15th on Sunday! That has undoubtedly become a core memory for him.
But something even more special took place at the celebrity event on Thursday night of the week of the World Wide Technology Championship. After the first round ended, the celebrity event took place on the course at night, in which Jack Nicklaus participated as well. And to Block’s utter surprise and disbelief, the golf legend used his putter to make the final winning shot.
Block recently appeared on the Par 3 podcast, which J.R. Smith, Ben Baller, and Stephen Malbon host. Here, the first question he was asked was about the putter. And to this, he proudly answered, “That putter is not going anywhere. Yeah, I mean, in fact, it’s on video. And the fact that he was like, Give me that putter, and I’m like, Cool. And he drained at that point; it wasn’t going anywhere, to begin with.”
He added that since Nicklaus had holed a putt with that very putter, there was no chance he was ever getting rid of it, no matter how old or worn it got. “It’s not going anywhere. It’ll be sitting in the Blockie Museum down on the way,” he stated proudly. Block seems to be going to treat the putter like a relic, and perhaps it should. After all, it is not every day that the greatest golfer of all time asks to borrow your club and achieve glory with it.
Nicklaus’ golden memory for Michael Block
In a video surfaced from the event, Nicklaus is seen keenly focused on his shot as the announcement in the background goes on. Then, with a slight force, he hit the ball with Block’s putter, and straight away, it went into the hole, for the win! Everybody around him starts cheering, and Block, who was standing beside him, comes and gives Nicklaus a side hug. Block is full of happiness with a hint of pride in his eyes, as he in some way contributed to Nicklaus’s success that night.

Soon after responding to JR Smith’s question, “Don’t you get tired of winning?” Nicklaus stated “no.” And then, to make his answer more definitive, he said, “Hell no.”

The entire scene was definitely an enthralling one to watch. Nicklaus once again proved that he’s rightly known as one of the GOAT’s in golf, and with Block just inches away from him bearing witness, he’s certainly made yet another core memory on the course!
