The news surrounding the latest joining of the DP World Tour, PGA Tour, and PIF is nowhere near over. Just like the entrance of LIV Golf in the golf arena, the ingress of the new yet-to-be-named entity is there to stay. However, it is not the whirlwind coalition alone that has disrupted the golf ecosystem. Rather, the way the information got public and how even the PGA Tour players weren’t aware of any such probable step has filled people’s hearts with sympathy.

A similar reaction was observed from Bryson DeChambeau. It was no surprise when the LIV golfer was asked about his opinion on the latest hot news in the golf world. However, when PGA Tour players were mentioned, he couldn’t help but feel bad for them.

After moving leagues in June last year, the 2020 U.S. Open winner has advocated for the Saudi-backed league. He believed in the potential of LIV Golf and its players. Even the golf strategy applied by the league had DeChambeau’s approval. Hence, when he was approached by Kaitlan Collins of CNN for an interview, it was not really unexpected.

In the interview, the LIV golfer presented his loyalty and provided a bold statement with regard to the shifting of leagues. He said, “The players that did go over, we did take a risk, and there was a reason for taking that risk relative to the capital that had to be paid out for that to occur.” Even though the star golfer referred to the shift as a risk, he settled the reason easily by comparing it to the risk of investment behind the establishment of LIV Golf.

Despite how he worded the shift to LIV Golf, the recent alliance between the golf leagues has somewhere proved the risks to be worth it. The merger has consequentially betrayed the PGA Tour players, who were left in the dark regarding it. Bryson Dechambeau appeared to share a similar stance.

The eight-time PGA Tour winner sympathized with his fellow golfers, despite which league they belonged to. He said, “I do feel bad for the PGA Tour players because they were told one thing and something else happened. On our side, we were told one thing, and it’s come to fruition.” He implied that the things that were presented to the PGA Tour professionals weren’t met, and something completely off the charts hit them when the PGA Tour joined forces with the Public Investment Fund on Tuesday.

The bold decision was made known to the PGA Tour players through a memo sent by the PGA Tour Commissioner, Jay Monahan. On the other hand, DeChambeau claimed that the Saudi side, received the fulfillment of a plan that was communicated. However, one thing he was certain of was that it was all for a brighter future.

DeChambeau believes that the LIV-PGA Tour alliance is a great thing

From the very start, the LIV golfer has supported his league and believed in its development. The one-time major winner not only supported LIV Golf but was optimistic about it coexisting with the PGA Tour. Well, it looks like somehow he looked into the future. After all, where golf stands right now with the billion-dollar merger, the concurrence of LIV Golf and the PGA Tour is not far off.

Overall, CNN’s primetime show Tuesday witnessed DeChambeau wishing well for the game of golf. The star expressed that he ultimately wants the players, the spectators, and the game of golf to succeed. He added that it was only a matter of time before his PGA Tour colleagues started seeing the best possible opportunities for themselves. His insightful stance was backed with happiness over how the merger will unite the players once more under one entity.

Eventually we all come back together now and play as one group—I think that’s the best thing, watching us play week in week out, the best players against each other,” DeChambeau concluded.
