Phil Mickelson is one of the best golfers in the sport who boasts a very successful career on the course. His achievements in his 30-year-long golfing career include 45 PGA Tour wins along with his record of being a six-time major champion.
However, the 51-year-old pro is now playing on a tour that has garnered a lot of attention, being labeled as the rival of the PGA Tour. Notably, speculations turned into reality recently as Mickelson signed up to be a part of the LIV Golf Invitational Series.

Mickelson returns to golf
Mickelson has been away from golf since he faced backlash for his controversial comments about the PGA Tour. It was so until this Monday before he presented himself for a telephonic interview with SI.com/Morning Read. Not to mention, he gave this interview just before his departure to England on Monday, where the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Series is set to take place.
In his interview, Mickelson mentioned how he got time to self-reflect during his 4-month sabbatical from golf. When asked about how he spent his time off, the golfer said he was at peace and was more engaged with the people he loves.

He said, “It’s been a tremendous opportunity for me to spend time with Amy and loved ones that I’ve never really had this opportunity to do in my life. I’ve been able to be much more present and engaged when I’m with the people I love. I feel much more healthy and at peace.”
“I’ve spent a lot of time doing therapy and dealing with issues that I have. But I’ve come away with a balance in my life and a renewed excitement and energy to get back to playing golf.’’
Phil Mickelson denies giving up his PGA Tour membership
The golf legend gave an unexpected response to the controversy, as it looked like he was trying to put an end to any more assumptions or misconceptions about his decisions. To everyone’s surprise, Mickelson said that he would be playing all the eight events in the LIV Tour, but at the same time, he would still want to compete for the majors.

Mickelson clearly said that he doesn’t intend to give up his PGA Tour membership while he is a part of the rival LIV Golf Invitational Series. He also stated that he was sorry for the way things happened and the mistakes he made.
