Could TGL be any more invisible? Should we play John Cena’s title track every time it’s on? The golf leagues in 2025 have struggled to find the expected viewership. Even TGL faced a similar backlash from fans as the PGA Tour. Starting the 2025 schedule, the Sentry offered a great victory run for Hideki Matsuyama, scoring under par 35. However, the viewership saw a drop of 34%. Continuing in the schedule, American Express saw the same feat but with bigger margins as it had a 54% drop.

The curse of declining viewership has been lifted from the PGA Tour as the past two signature events, including AT&T Pebble Beach and Genesis Invitational, have laid a strong foundation with 3 million plus viewership. On the other hand, TGL was expecting a similar comeback, but it didn’t go as planned.

The recent update on the TV rating for the tech-infused league has shared a disheartening feat. NUCLR GOLF has shared a post on X with complete viewership stats. The post read, “🚨📺⛳️ #TGL RATINGS are in, including Mon. (avg) & Tues. this week (Via @JoshACarpenter)▪️9P Week 1 — 919K (Debut)▪️7P Week 2 — 1.05M (TW)▪️7P Week 3 — 682K ▪️7P Week 4 — 864K (Rory/Tiger)▪️9P Week 5 — 544K ▪️1/4/7P Week 6 — 365K▪️7P Week 6 — 546K.”

Just like TGL, the NBA’s In-Season Tournament came in hot, but not every game kept that same energy. The ratings were high at first, but as the new concept wore off, viewership saw a downward spiral. You know, fans need more than just a shiny new trophy to stay locked in—storylines, rivalries, and real stakes keep them coming back. TGL, after the first event had crossed 1 million views, but Woods’ supporters could be a big reason for that.

After that, even the most anticipated matchup between Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods could only garner 864K. The curse which went off the shoulders of the PGA Tour is still haunting TGL and fans have shared their true feelings.

Fans discarding TGL after the viewership report

The huge upside, which was expected after the second matchup, has seen the opposite. Even with the triple header in week 6, it could only get 365,000 viewers. Well, this is definitely a sign of worry for the league which even comments of fans are showcasing.

Pointing out the mistake, one of the fans wrote, “I mean the marketing for it is awful. I don’t see any ads for it anywhere and I have no idea when it’s on or what channel. I just catch the highlights.” TGL, for every event, posts on social media for updates. There are no marketing tactics used, which may be a reason why fans are not turning up to watch the event live.

Another enthusiast pointed out another planning flaw in the league, “The inconsistent dates and times are hard to keep up with.” Compared to the PGA Tour, which hosts events from Thursday to Sunday, TGL has not finalized a particular schedule. It even tried three matches in a single day. Other netizens joined in by sharing their thoughts, writing, “Watching people use a golf sim is just not interesting imo,” and “I stopped watching after week 2. So so bad.” The fans comparing the unique ideology of tech golf with conventional golf is a big issue for the league. Compared to the adrenaline and authenticity of traditional golf, simulator golf has somewhat failed to offer it to the fans.

One hateful comment from the fan read, “lol and people are trying to say it’s getting stronger. TGL is a mess.” TGL has a 23% average audience boost with 11.3M viewers, but match numbers are still losing steam. Once again, fans have raised eyebrows, wondering if the league is getting stronger.

With halfway through the league stages, the league is still battling the curse of declining viewership. Does the future hold any positive surprises for the tech-infused league? Tiger Woods & Co. still has the last half to find out. What are your predictions for the league? Share with us in the comments below.
