Team USA has set foot in Rome, gearing up for their clash against Europe in the much-anticipated Ryder Cup. The Americans look to end a 30-year drought, of not winning on European soil. Helmed by captain Zach Johnson, the US team features top talents like Scottie Scheffler, and Brooks Koepka, a winner of five major titles.

It’s worth noting that Koepka is the lone participant from the LIV Golf League making his way to Italy. Meanwhile, the legendary Tiger Woods will stay back in the US to manage crucial PGA director responsibilities. Yet, in spirit, he remains alongside each player, and his vast experience is sure to guide the team’s journey in Rome throughout the Cup.

During the opening press conference of captains at Marco Simone in Rome, when asked about legend Tiger Woods’ influence on the team and how he is involved with the team, Zach Johnson stated that Tiger won’t be joining them in Italy as he is caught up with a lot of work.

He further added, “As far as conferring with him, communicating with him, I mean, we have up to this point, and he is one of — he understands that now that our feet are on the ground, it’s probably kind of best that we navigate this ourselves.”

He stated that, however, he’s always there in spirit. At this stage, his involvement leans more toward encouragement, whether he’s sending messages to the players or to the vice-captains and captains. He remains deeply committed to Team USA’s endeavors year after year, and that dedication has never waned.

Zach Johnson further added, “…Thankfully, he’s an American. We are going to utilize his knowledge and his wisdom and his candor and his passion the best we can.”

Tiger can influence the Ryder Cup outcome in a big way

Tiger Woods has been off the course for a large part of this season due to an injury. He has played eight Ryder Cups to date, with his most recent participation coming in 2018. He boasts a whopping 37 games and his record in singles read thus: 4-2-2.

His current role in the Tour keeps him quite busy. While there hasn’t been a formal announcement from Woods about attending the event, his presence would certainly delight fans. But even if he can’t make it to the event, in this age of social media he can certainly influence the outcome of the contest in a big way, make no mistake.
