The recent changes mean that the best player in the PGA University program will earn a tour membership after the end of stroke play at the 2023 NCAA D-I National Championship. The golf writer at CBSC sports took his official Twitter account and posted pictures of the new rules. He captioned it, saying that PGA Tour has created two paths for college golfers straight into full membership on the Tour. Without a doubt, this is a good thing and a big deal. But what are the changes?
How did fans react to the great PGA news?
According to the new rule, the best player to finish the final PGA Tour University Velocity Global ranking will have the right to be part of the Tour. The golfer will be eligible for all the Open championship and full-field events. However, for this to happen, the NCCA Championship must conclude first. Not to mention that the Velocity Global ranking will also include seniors who will meet the eligibility criteria.

However, the introduction of PGA Tour University Accelerated will also benefit Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen. The Golfers who will achieve high benchmarks in college will benefit from it. This new program will allow amateur and professional golfers to earn tour membership. However, again the NCAA championship’s conclusion will make all this happen. Once the golfer meets the benchmarks, he can be part of the Open Championship and other PGA field events.

This is great but how impossible is it going to be if you’re a college senior to get Tour eligibility, even if you’re dominant? 20 points is borderline unattainable, but I guess that’s also sort of the point to some degree.

Isn't this just slightly more than a nothingburger if only 3 guys would have qualified for tour cards from this system in the the last 12 years?

Would it be possible to get conditional status based on performance but not make it through this points system. The 13th in a major and 7th in a tour event seems like a lot of fed ex cup pts

Doesn't seem like that big of a deal if only 3 players in the last 12 years would have qualified…
