As Rose Zhang sat down for the pre-conference press meet, questions about her mindset before the big game were sort of a given. In context of her approach at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Zhang mentioned that there has been no change in her advances. In fact, the first step for the young star will be to make the cut.

She said in a light, humorous tone, “Yeah. Well, in order to be in contention and play well, you have to make the cut first, right? So that is the first goal“. After achieving that, she will aim to continue from there.

The key point of Zhang’s preparations is that she isn’t moving into the game with “any expectations,” except for how she should play the sport and perform. That makes complete sense; after all, it is important to have an outlook toward one’s game. However, it is important that these assumptions don’t blur the lines so much that it becomes difficult to recover from an unexpected result.
