Just days after the exciting golf action in Mexico, the PGA Tour pros will now head to Charlotte for the Wells Fargo Championship. While it may be a costly affair for some golfers to travel more than 1500 miles, one of the Tour players has shared a sneak peek with his fans on how the American Tour assists them with the charter flights.

The upcoming Wells Fargo Championship will mark the final designated event before the PGA Championship. With $20 million in prize money, the event will be staged on May 4-7 at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. As many golfers made their way from Jalisco to the Old North State, they were assisted by the PGA Tour.

A sneak peek into PGA Tour’s charter flight

While most golfers have the privilege of owning a private jet, some players struggle to afford an economic ticket due to the high expenses. However, in 2020, the PGA Tour announced a charter flight for inter-city travel for players and caddies, which they need to reserve a week before departure.

The spot on the private charter also depends on ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. Fortunately for South African golfer Dylan Fritteli, he managed to secure a seat on the flight to Well Fargo Championship this week. The 32-year-old shared a snap from the charter flight on his Instagram story. ‘Oh that’s cool’, wrote Fritteli after seeing the PGA Tour logo on the seat covers.

Dylan further wrote, “Tour charter to Charlotte. Making travel east”. While the initiative by the Tour started during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has continued to provide services to its golfers even till now. But with the PGA Tour providing the 170-seater charter flight, do golfers travel in it for free?

Do golfers pay for their seats in the PGA Tour jet?

By providing a charter flight, the Tour is cutting all the extra work a golfer does to travel for the tournaments. However, a seat on the charter flight isn’t free for the golfer or his caddie. Each seat on the jet costs $600 for the PGA Tour players as well as PGA Tour Champions golfers.

However, the price is half deducted at $300 for the Korn Ferry Tour players. Golfers will be provided with full refunds in case if they cancel their reservation 24 hours in advance. Regardless, many golfers like Dylan Fritteli do find the PGA Tour charter flight quite helpful. Perhaps the Tour can generate more initiatives as such.
