Tiger Woods had dated Elin Nordegren for three years before getting married in 2004. After living happily for almost six years, the two had to part ways and go through a very public divorce in the end. 

A scandal involving the golfer that broke out in 2009 led to the couple’s split in 2010. Even though the two ended their relationship on a sour note, the two wanted to give their marriage another shot. And they had a reason for it. 

“You think of every way you can save a marriage when it is in a crisis,” Nordegren said. “And I think you try even harder when you have children.” She explained the reason why she and the golf legend tried hard to get back together in an interview she gave to PEOPLE. 

“So yes, initially, I thought we had a chance,” she further stated. “And we tried really hard.” Even though their love faded away, Woods and Nordegren didn’t want to divorce each other because of their children.

How many children do Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren have? 

Woods and Nordegren have two children, a daughter, and a son. Sam Alexis Woods, the couple’s first child, was born on June 18, 2007, a day after he finished runner-up at the U. S. Open. Notably, she had the honor to introduce him at the 2022 World Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony. 

On the other hand, Charles Axel Woods, the youngest, was born on February 8, 2009. He is much more famous in the golf world than his sister since he also plays golf like his father. He has even runner-up at the 2021 PNC Championship, an unofficial father-son event, with Woods.

Notably, Nordegren and Woods have opted to co-parent their children as both wanted the best for their children. “I can imagine that having your parents stay happily together would be the ultimate best thing for children,” Nordegren had then said.

The 15-time major champion has revealed how well he and his ex-wife get along in many interviews he appeared in after their divorce. According to him, he and the mother of his children started communicating better after their divorce. 

Woods and his ex-wife always wanted to give happiness to their children. Although they ended up co-parenting, there was a time when they wanted to reconcile just for the sake of their children.
