The Beautiful Tradition Behind PGA Tour Players Wearing Yellow Ribbons at Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament

Jack Nicklaus was the host of last week’s PGA Tour event. Like any other year, the 2022 Memorial Tournament took place at the challenging Muirfield Village Golf Club, designed by the golf legend himself. Moreover, the players wore yellow ribbons throughout the event, but why?

All the professionals who teed up last week at the Memorial Tournament wore yellow ribbons as a part of the “Play Yellow” campaign, which raises funds for a noble cause. Moreover, Since 1976, the golden bear’s event, the Memorial Tournament, has helped raise funds for the hospitals. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the United States of America.

The PGA Tour and the CMN hospitals have a campaign to raise funds amounting to $100 million in the next five years through the ‘ Play Yellow” campaign. The same tradition was being followed last week at Jack’s event. Furthermore, the Play Yellow drive invited the spectators and the Tour professionals to help raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital by wearing yellow during the final round on Sunday and purchasing the unique AHEAD brand of Nicklaus merchandise in the golf shop. At the same time, make donations at the golf shop or concession stands.

All the donations collected during the week at the Memorial Tournament will be distributed and assigned to various initiates taken by the Nationwide Children’s hospital. At the same time, people could donate online at playyellow.org. Moreover, the ‘Play Yellow’ campaign took inspiration from Nicklaus’ attire from his triumph at Augusta in 1986. In the final round of the 1986 Master, he wore a yellow shirt to honor Craig Smith, a son of Jack’s close friend who passed away due to bone cancer in 1971. Craig passed away at the age of 13. Who won the Memorial Tournament yesterday?

Billy Horschel emphatically won last week’s PGA Tour event. He ended the event with an overall score of 13-under-par. As a result, the Tour professional won with a four-shot lead on Sunday. Moreover, the American professional carded a final round of even-par, 72 to finish on the top of the leaderboard. His final round included one bogey and eight pars on the opening nine holes. As a result, he moved out in one-over-par, 37. Horschel made two bogeys, one birdie, and an eagle to end his round. His family, including his father, wife, and kids were present to congratulate him.
