The 2024 Presidents Cup concluded last month. After their win in 1998, the International Team, led by Mike Weir, managed to put up a great fight. They tied with the American team on the second day with a score of 5-5. However, after the singles matches, they were defeated by Team USA with a score of 17-10. After the heartbreaking loss at Royal Montreal, Weir has returned to the Black Desert Resort, this time no longer as a captain.

At the Wednesday press round, Weir revealed how he has always drawn a line between being a player and a captain. When asked how he balances the two roles, he said they are completely different for him. “I guess when you’re the captain of a team like that, you put yourself aside and your game aside and you’re focused on those 12 players,” he said. Despite having several other members helping through the process, being a captain is a huge responsibility.

According to Weir, being a captain means thinking about the other players instead of yourself. “It was a wonderful experience, except not winning. The main goal was trying to win.” However, for him, now things are going to be different. “now it’s back to my game, and I can focus on my game. And I’ve been doing that — kind of midweek last week, I took a few days’ rest and then when I got home, started working on my game,” added Weir. He took two weeks off and is finally back, ready to put his best foot forward. He also mentioned how he has been practicing intensely to get into contention this weekend.

Mike Weir enters the Black Desert Championship with great gameplay

When asked about getting back into the game and how he thought his form was before entering the 2024 Black Desert Championship, Mike Weir was brimming with confidence. He feels his game is in pretty good shape at the moment. Despite having missed cuts at the Masters, RBC Heritage, and the Procore Championship, he said, “My game all year has been solid.” He will be playing for the next weeks consecutively.

He will be playing four weeks on the PGA Tour and the last week on the Champions Tour. The Black Desert Resort is a newly built golf course, and according to Weir, it is a great course for him.
