The golf world shook by the ungodly slow pace that Patrick Cantlay displayed during the final round of the Masters on Sunday. What shook the people of the golf fraternity more was Hovland’s action. As it turns out, Hovland might have grown tired of Cantlay’s slow playing. But it did raise a bigger question that fans need an answer to.

Fans react to a tweet asking if Patrick Cantlay should have been penalized for his pace

Hovland sent a strong message to Cantlay about his arguably slow pace on the day of the final round of Masters. The two golfers were playing alongside each other. Hovland was not the only one who thought the pace was slow, Koepka also thought so when he commented on it in the press conference after the tournament.

In the video that surfaced a couple of days before, Viktor Hovland was seen walking past from the left and Cantay was still hitting his shot.

It did raise the issue of breaching a major golfing etiquette, but it asked a bigger question, Do you think Cantlay’s slow play should have been penalized?”

To answer the question raised in the tweet, fans definitely did not shy away from answering. A fan posted a GIF in the comment section that summed up his feelings about Cantlay being penalized but mentioned, “Yes, but a verbal warning should be given first.”

More fans continued to comment with affirmative responses to the question. One fan commented, “Definitely!! Why was he not put on the clock?! The group in front of him was a hole and a half ahead!”, whereas the other said, “100%. I had to turn off because of him. Couldn’t take it anymore.”

Another fan mentioned that Cantlay is not the only one who plays slow, “Yea but he’s not the only one.”

Another fan continued the series of penalties he had in mind for Cantlay, “Fined, banned or docked shots tbf.” whereas, another fellow fan pointed out the concern that one should ask for Cantlay’s say on it as well, “Has anyone gotten a comment from Cantlay about this?”
