But despite all his achievements and records all over the world, Augusta National visibly holds special importance in his heart. In fact, he recently opened up about how much the golf course means to him in an interview ahead of the Masters tournament. “I always said that if they have a golf course like this in heaven, I want to be the head pro,” he said as per Golf Monthly.

Out of all his victories, the golf ace has won the Masters Tournament three times in his career. However, despite being a former champion at the highly coveted event, Player had to face something he never expected. He recently revealed how getting a tee time at Augusta National is no less than a struggle for him despite his Masters wins.

“After all I’ve contributed to the tournament and been an ambassador for them, I can’t go and have a practice round there with my three grandchildren…It’s terribly, terribly sad,” he said. The news came as a shock to all his fans as Player continued speaking about how he felt. “I’ve played my role. “I’ve won it three times,…If it wasn’t for the players, [Augusta National] would just be another golf course in Georgia.”

Despite what he feels about the treatment he has received from Augusta National, Player will be joining his buddies Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson at the first tee for the honorary starters. Although fans are highly disappointed by Player’s shocking revelation, they are extremely happy to watch him at the tournament.
