The Match 2024 is back for its ninth run! This exhibition golf event has grabbed the attention of fans with its unique match-ups over the years. It started by building upon the rivalry between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. But over the years, they have changed the format multiple times.

This year is no different, as the match will have a unique format for its ninth edition. Furthermore, they are also pitting multiple male and female golf stars against each other this year, making it a first for the event.

Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, Lexi Thompson, and Rose Zhang will be going head-to-head in a 12-hole skins game. In this format, four golfers are invited to a tournament, and they play to win individual holes, or ‘skins’, in a match-play format. Furthermore, each hole is given a monetary value. The golfer who wins the hole wins the money.

But if the two golfers end up in a tie, the skin of that hole is carried to the next green. Following this pattern, if the last hole is tied, then playoffs begin until one golfer secures the prize money. After 12 greens, whoever secures the most skins will be declared the winner of the match in 2024.

How much money is up for grabs at The Match 2024?

While the skins game format dictates a monetary prize on each hole, the event is a charitable one. Due to this reason, players will not be awarded money but will be getting other gifts on each green. Like last year, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce won The Match in 2023. By doing so, they were awarded gold bracelets from Tiffany & Co. But last year’s exhibition golf event was a bust.

With a viewership of only 782,000, it was the least-watched event of the series. Maybe the reason was the lack of pro-golfers missing from the golf exhibition event. To make things right, this year only professional golfers are taking part in The Match 2024!

Another interesting change is that both male and female golfers will have different tee boxes and yardage for eight greens. However, they will have the same starting point on four par-3 holes. With such an interesting format, the organizers will be hoping this year’s event succeeds in pleasing the fans.
