‘The Match’ is an exhibition series that began in 2018. It has completed six editions since then and will see its seventh this week. The event has featured many of the biggest stars in the golf, and other sports greats. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Steph Curry are just a few examples.

Where is the event airing?

The seventh edition of ‘The Match’ sees Tiger Woods return to the exhibition game. It begins this week, on the 10th of December. Woods pairs up with Rory McIlroy, and together they take on Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.

The event is being held in Florida, at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair. The Match begins at 6 p.m. ET and airs on TNT, with simulcasts available on TBS, truTV, and HLN. The event will be played under the lights for over 12 holes. The competition is a benefit for Hurricane Ian relief efforts.

Woods has played twice before in the exhibition series, losing to Phil Mickelson in the inaugural game in 2018. He then paired up with Peyton Manning to beat Mickelson and Brady in the fourth edition of the series in 2020.

The other three golf pros have never been on ‘The Match,’ but Thomas was a commentator when Woods and Manning beat Mickelson and Brady on the course in 2020.

Details on the two sides playing in The Match

Woods and Rory, who are now business partners in TMRW Sports, which focuses on “building technology-focused ventures that feature progressive approaches to sports, media, and entertainment,” have 105 PGA Tour victories combined, including 19 majors.

Thomas and Spieth have been friends for a long time now, since their junior golf days. They have 28 PGA Tour victories combined and five majors. Although it does not compare to Rory’s and Woods’ combined stats, the two have great chemistry and have been in remarkable form.
