“Mutual of Omaha and Henrik Stenson have mutually decided to end their sponsorship relationship, effective immediately,” a spokesperson said. The development comes barely a week after he was removed as the captain of the European team for the 2023 Ryder Cup.
“In light of decisions made by Henrik in relation to his personal circumstances, it has become clear that he will not be able to fulfil certain contractual obligations to Ryder Cup Europe that he had committed to prior to his announcement as Captain on Tuesday March 15, 2022, and it is therefore not possible for him to continue in the role of Captain.” an official from Ryder Cup Europe said.

A statement from Ryder Cup Europe.
— Ryder Cup Europe (@RyderCupEurope) July 20, 2022
Stenson was announced as the new captain of the European team in March this year, succeeding Irish golfer Padraig Harrington. Stenson was vastly experienced at the Ryder Cup and made five appearances as a member. He also served as the vice-captain in the last edition. Thus, this decision was welcomed by all. However, Stenson has at times flirted with the idea of moving to LIV. After initially saying he was “fully committed to the captaincy and to Ryder Cup Europe“, he told reporters that he was “undecided” on the same after missing the cut at The Open Championship a fortnight ago.

Repercussions of joining the LIV golf series
It all went south for Stenson after he decided to join the lucrative LIV Golf series. The PGA and the DP Tour had already laid out the terms for players joining the rebel series. And like other superstars who have joined the Saudi-backed league, Stenson was suspended from both tours. Moreover, traditional sponsors who remain loyal to the roots of the game have also taken action, with the Royal Bank of Canada ending its sponsorships with LIV-bound Dustin Johnson and Graeme McDowell. A host of companies such as Amstel, KPMG and Workday all dropped Phil Mickelson as their brand ambassador. While Rocket Mortgage dropped Bryson DeChambeau over his commitment.
