

Tiger Woods is known to have one of the most decorated careers in the sport of golf. However, every good thing must come to an end. Despite many speculations revolving around Woods’ retirement, the Hall of Famer believes he still has a lot left in him. Woods’ former opponent and legendary golfer Colin Montgomerie, however, believes Woods must have retired at St Andrew’s earlier this year.

Tiger’s 25-year-long career has given the fans many moments to cherish. Though he has constantly been the victim of injuries, the suffering has only seemingly increased in recent years. Deeming to his struggles on the course in the last few years, many have suggested the 15-time Major winner call it quits.
The most recent golfer with the suggestion was none other than his 2005 Open Championship final-round opponent Colin Montgomerie. As per the Scottish golfer, Woods must have retired earlier this year.

Woods returning to St. Andrews earlier this year got a lot of attraction. However, the much-anticipated return didn’t lead up to the expectation as Woods failed to make the cut. He scored an underwhelming 78 in the first round while scoring 3 over par in the second.

Despite a disappointing performance, fans at the Home of Golf cheered and chanted ‘Tiger’, as he made his exit through the Old Course. In a recent Bunkered podcast episode, where Colin Montgomerie was the guest host, he shared how Woods’ exit at St. Andrews was a perfect way to end his career.

“That was the time,” said the Ryder Cup legend. “Stand on that bridge, start waving, and everyone goes, ‘So, is that it?’ Yeah, it is. It would have been a glorious way to go”. The Scottish golfer further added how the world had its sights on St. Andrews watching one of the greatest walkouts.

“The world’s TV cameras – from all continents – were on him, he’s walking up there on his own, tears were in his eyes obviously… you can’t beat that walk”, Montgomerie added. The Scottish Hall of Famer also indicated how the competition has improved for Woods, and stated, “There’s 22 guys that can beat him”.

Colin added how he was in tears while competing against Tiger back in the 2005 British Open on the same legendary golf course. “I was tearful playing with him in 2005” while reminiscing his defeat against Tiger Woods.
Regardless, Woods’ motives to continue competing in professional golf seem to last much longer as he is set to compete at PNC Championship this coming week alongside his son. Moreover, fans too want to see more of Tiger on the course and don’t want the Hall of Famer to quit any time soon.
