Rory McIlroy’s statements after breaking his marriage with Caroline Wozniacki

The golf world took a halt when McIlroy called off his wedding over a three-minute-long phone call. And it was after the invites for his wedding with tennis superstar, Caroline Wozniacki were sent out. According to reports, Wozniacki first thought that the golfer was joking around when he first called her.

Soon after he decided to step back, McIlroy went to play the BMW PGA Championship and won. He also made a few statements about how he felt about acting in such a way. As per his statements, McIlroy “wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.” But the golfer only realized that months after getting down on one knee to propose to his then-girlfriend, Wozniacki.

However, McIlroy married Erica Stoll in 2017, who first saw each other back in 2012. The golfer also talked about how he felt about Stoll and stated the difference in feelings between both times. Speaking about Wozniacki, he said, “I thought at the time that being with someone that was in a similar position to you was the obvious answer.” But it didn’t work out very well for the golfer. And while asked about his wife, Erica Stoll, McIlroy said, “I can be myself around her; there’s no bull****, no acting, no show”.

When asked if she was aware of the comments McIlroy made about her or not, Wozniacki said, “I saw it alright, but I do not really have anything to say. Was I surprised? Yes.”. She added that the fact that McIlroy was in a good place in life, should help him move on. And that she didn’t know why the golfer kept making statements about their past relationship publicly.

Although McIlroy once saw his future with Caroline Wozniacki, he decided to step back from the wedding a few days before it was going to happen. And after his decision, the professional found himself in a bad place in the eyes of his fans. Both Wozniacki and McIlroy made some statements about each other after the breakup. But the two have now moved on and McIlroy is very happy in his life with Erica Stoll.
