Before the commencement of the Masters 2024 on Thursday, the much-awaited Par-3 contest took place on Wednesday. Apart from Rickie Fowler’s glittering win with a 5-under-22 score, there were five Aces scored in the contest.

Viktor Hovland was one of the players who kept the ace trend rolling at the Augusta National, bagging it on the 6th hole. However, the joy of his ace was short-lived, as he missed the cut on the greens after the second round. He is heavily trolled by the golf community for his bizarre exit.

Viktor Hovland began the front nine of the first round with a good start, scoring no bogeys and 4 birdies. However, as soon as he reached the back 9 holes, he started by scoring a double bogey! This led his score to a 1-under 71, which is a pretty decent one. However, things started taking a sad turn in the second round on Friday. He carded a total of 3 double bogeys and 3 bogeys, dropping his score to 9 over 81. Well, the weather did play a huge part in the disappointment as well.

Hovland missed the cut after the conclusion of the second round, marking his dramatic exit from the Masters 2024. Had it not been for Wyndham Clark, the 26-year-old would have been the highest-ranked OWGR player to miss the cut on the greens. Well, his allusions to not feeling at the top of his game were indeed true, as he mentioned earlier.

For the Masters, Viktor Hovland said on Tuesday that he’s now getting coaching from Dana Dahlquist, who is known to be among the top 50 best teachers at Golf Digest. However, he is the fourth coach for Hovland in less than a year. It is indeed a lot of change for a golfer like Hovland, who was doing pretty well last year in August. He even made people think that he would soon make it to the No. 1 rank on the OWGR list. However, that appears to be a far-fetched dream. Rubbing salt in his wounds, World No. 6’s underwhelming performance at Augusta even became a topic of discussion in the golf town.

The Golf Community picks at Viktor Hovland

As a video was shared on a Reddit page, of Viktor Hovland’s last double bogey at the tournament on the 15th hole, the golf community could no longer keep the laugh to themselves. Although none of them pointed at him directly, they used all means of sarcasm to take a jab at him. One of them resorted to the gimme rule of golf. He sarcastically suggests that the situation was a rather easy shot, which makes his exit inexcusable despite the leniency of the gimme. He wrote, “Don’t worry Hovland that’s a gimme”.

Another resorted to sarcasm in blaming an inanimate object that could barely be the cause of the situation. Hinting how absurd Hovland’s game was, one of them commented, “Super glad he ditched the ball. It’s really all that stupid f****n ball’s fault.” However, some of them heavily trolling him with showers of sympathy for missing the cut, left comments like, “I get it bud” and “They massacred my boy”.

The Augusta National too has been exceptionally tough this year, with tumultuous weather conditions for the first two rounds. It truly stands up to the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses, which makes the tournament all the more exciting. However, for some, it turns out to be nothing but a huge disappointment. Taking to this, one of them wrote, “Glad to see Augusta showing its teeth, but sad to see some of the carnage. 😞
