

Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus are the two legends of golf. Moreover, the 15-time major championship winner and the 18-time major championship winner share a strong bond with each other. Recently, Tiger’s long-term caddie Steve Williams spoke about how Woods always compared himself to Jack.

Steve Williams on Tiger Woods’ obsession to break Jack’s records
Every golf professional dreams to achieve various feats throughout their careers. Moreover, they also wish to achieve all the records set by the Golden Bear. Eldrick Woods is among the professionals who have the hunger to break all the records set by Jack Nicklaus. Moreover, Woods’ former caddie Steve Williams spoke about Tiger’s relationship with Jack as well as, about how he always respected Jack.
Williams revealed the same in episode nine of the podcast namely Chasing Majors. Not to forget that Tiger and Steve were together for a long time and Williams caddied for Tiger from 1999 to 2011. Steve witnessed both highs and lows of Woods’ career.
Steve said, “I mean, they weren’t close. And, but the respect was amazing. And Tiger was absolutely in awe of Jack’s record, and he knew every stat that Jack had, which was amazing, it could tell you how many majors when we all knew how many seconds you’d have, how many thirds it has, how many top 10s It had, how many cuts he had missed. I mean, he knew every statistic on Jack.”

He added, “So, you know, target grew up comparing himself to Jack. That’s what he wanted to do. And he had all the statistics but he, he felt that his major accomplishment, not just the 18 majors that he won, but the mass seconds and top 10s and top threes that he had was just unbelievable.” William’s words prove the amount of respect Tiger has for Jack as a professional and all his accomplishments.
Tiger’s first major win
Woods won his first major back in 1997 just one year after turning professional. He won the 1997 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club with an overall score of 18-under-par. As a result, won the event with a whopping 12 strokes lead. His win by 12 strokes is the highest margin of victory at the Masters ever. Moreover, he carded a final round of three-under-par, 69 on Sunday.

His final round of 69 featured two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine. As a result, Woods moved out in level par 36. He made three birdies on the back nine on his route to a record-breaking win at the Masters. Tom Kite finished as the runner-up to Woods. He finished the event with an overall score of six-under-par in the second position.
