Things Get Heated at LIV Golf Finale as Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka Trade Fiery Personal Jabs: ‘You’ve Never Been No. 1 in the World’

Phil Mickelson is known for his witty comments more than the records he has made on the field. The six-time major winner has been in controversy for a long time ever since he joined the LIV Golf league. However, during a recent press conference, the golfer exchanged a few heated comments with fellow LIV player, Brooks Koepka.

Mickelson has a record of making bold statements during all his interviews and public appearances. The golfer made some serious comments about the PGA Tour before joining the LIV Golf league. However, this time, his comments were not regarding anyone outside the league. Instead, the golfer got into a heated conversation with a fellow LIV player during the press conference at the team championship in Miami.

The conference room featured LIV Golf players including Mickelson along with Brooks Koepka. The reporter asked Koepka about the player of his choice to play in the quarter-finals. But before he could answer, Mickelson decided to interrupt and said, “Let me just clarify that he doesn’t have to pick from the last four, he can pick from all seven teams,”. He pointed towards the fact that Koepka could have chosen Mickelson’s team to play.

And as soon Mickelson finished up with his statements, Koepka taunted the golfer and said, “we can play…you probably don’t know this because you’ve never been No. 1 in the world,”. He even said that he had two championship trophies and that he could bring one for Mickelson to look at. However, Lefty, brought up another exclusive achievement and said, “That’s a beautiful green shirt. Do you have a green jacket?” But Koepka assured Mickelson and the world that he would soon have one for himself.

Despite their longtime rivalry, Mickelson has had great respect for Tiger Woods throughout his career. And there was a time when the golfer revealed the impact of Woods’ skills on his game. In an interview, Mickelson said, “He brought out the best in me because he forced me and everybody else to get better.”
