Smith was playing at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last weekend. And a fan named Blake Jaros was present to witness his first PGA Tour match ever. Smith hit a shot hard enough to smash Jaros’ phone and his thumb. Luckily, the fan covered his head in time. As soon as Jaros recovered from the shock of having his thumb bruised, he saw Smith standing next to him, apologizing. I’m sorry, Smith said after realizing he had broken Jaros’ phone. He then signed his glove, took it off, and gave it to Jaros. Smith also promised Jaros to get him a new phone, after which he noted down the fan’s phone number in his yardage book. It is not very often that a player is so humble, yet so classy. But after Jaros’ case, Smith has set the bar high.
