Making his debut in 2007, Dustin Johnson rapidly steadily climbed the ladder of success, becoming one of the most prominent names on the PGA Tour. However, in June this year, the former World No. 1 quit the tour, to sign a $125 million deal with LIV Golf. After four months in the Saudi Arabia-backed league, he recently shut critics for their constant reproval.

Following back-to-back impressive performances in the previous events, Johnson is currently in Bangkok to play the 6th event of LIV Golf. On the 6th of October, he interacted with the media during the pre-tournament press conference. During the interaction, he opened up about how the tour has rapidly witnessed rapid growth in its inaugural season itself.

Dustin Johnson elucidates the changing mindset of critics toward LIV Golf

During the conversation, Dustin started by asserting, “I think for me, it’s gone really well. It’s gone better than even I expected it to. I think it’s just going to keep getting better and keep getting more recognition around the world.”

Ever since its announcement, LIV Golf has been the talk of the town. Not to mention, for all the wrong reasons. While a large section of the golf world has called out the LIV Golfers, another section has slammed the entire concept of the league. However, with four months gone, Johnson senses an improved mindset.

“The media and everybody is starting to finally catch on that this is not a joke, it’s real golf, and we’ve got some of the best players in the world,” he said, with a sense of positivity. “I think the team aspect brings a whole different kind of flavor to golf, and it’s something that people and fans can get behind, and obviously we’re going to play in all different parts of the world.”

Ever since joining the league, Johnson, along with many other LIV golfers, has emphasized LIV Golf’s contribution to popularizing the sport around the globe. He was of the opinion that LIV was doing a great job.

Keeping his game on point, Johnson has managed to come up with a bag full of impressive performances in the previous rounds. Leading the 4 Aces GC, the 38-year-old is now eyeing the team’s 4th and his 2nd win in the Bangkok event of LIV Golf.

Set to start today i.e. 7th October, the Bangkok event will end on 9th October. Following this, the league will next move to Jeddah, before calling it a season in Miami later this month.
