Just because athletes sometimes seem superhuman doesn’t mean they actually are. They go through the same emotions as everyone else. Unfortunate incidents, such as the one that recently occurred with John Daly, frequently bring this aspect about these celebrities to light. The two-time major winner recently lost a loved one, causing him to express his sadness on social media.
Daly has been through tons both on and off the course. Having suffered multiple injuries and health issues, the golf pro is no stranger to bad news. But this certainly hits differently because there is nothing sadder or more final than death.

Golf World mourns alongside John Daly
In a recent post, Long John expressed his grief over losing his “dad.” He wrote, “Hearing the news of Mr. Hardy saddens me! He was one of a kind! A man I grew close to in the early 90s as a father figure who I continued to call “dad”.”
The PGA Tour veteran explained that Hardy’s death came on his 100th birthday, turning a joyful celebration into a sad one. “God bless you, dad,” he wrote.

The golf world sympathized with Daly on his loss sending prayers his way. One fan said, “Thoughts and prayers big John!” Another commented, “May he rest in peace.”

One fan claimed to recognize Hardy. They said, “He had some unique business philosophies and a lot of loyal employees. He was a motivator!” Another wrote, “Look at him still chomping on a stick in the picture.”

Hardy was exactly the kind of father figure Daly needed in his life
Growing up, Daly didn’t have an ideal male idol in his life. The golf pro didn’t share a close connection with his father. In an interview with Graham Bensinger in 2016. Daly stated, “We just never have had that bond.”

Long John stated that he greatly respected his father and that he would not have a golf career without him. But all Daly truly wanted from him was love and affection. “I didn’t need that from him. All I wanted was his love,” said Daly yearningly.

Hardy, on the other hand, was Daly’s father figure. He stated in his tweet that when he was younger, he began calling him “dad” and continued to do so till his passing. The two-time major winner was in disbelief since he had only recently spoken to him over Facetime.

It is saddening to see Daly suffer even more than he already has. The entire golf community undoubtedly keeps him in their thoughts. Stay strong, Long John.
