The 2025 LPGA season is nearing its end in Florida. The second round of the 2025 ANNIKA Championship is done. The field has been cut short. While golfers like Grace Kim and Linn Grant are doing well, tied at the top, not everyone performed the same. Several big names couldn’t cross the official cut line of one-over-par. Let us look at a few.

Kai Trump

The event’s biggest story was 18-year-old Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump. She received a sponsor’s exemption at the Pelican Golf Club to participate in the tournament, and the decision caused a lot of talk. Her junior rank of 461st (AJGA) showed a big gap against the world’s best professionals she was competing against.

Kai admitted she was definitely more nervous than she expected, and her first-round scorecard showed it. She started her LPGA career with four straight bogeys with a final score of a tough 13-over-par 83 with no birdies. Kai had nine bogeys and two double bogeys in total, and it placed her in last place after the first round.

But her second round told a completely different story. With the pressure off, Trump showed a massive 8-stroke improvement, posting a 5-over 75. Tournament host Annika Sorenstam praised her. Kai finished last at +18, missing the cut by 17 strokes.

Lexi Thompson

Fans also watched Lexi Thompson closely. Her missed cut was, unfortunately, not a big surprise. The 29-year-old entered the week ranked 76th in the world. She has played a very limited schedule this year, and this was her first start in a couple of months. Pelican Golf Club was once her happy place. Thompson was a runner-up at this event in 2021 and 2022, but she also missed the cut here in 2024.

Thompson started her week with a one-over 71. That score put her right on the projected cut line, and she had no room for error on Friday. She basically needed a par round or better to continue. Instead, she stumbled and posted a 4-over-par 74. That makes her final score of 5-over 145, placing her T92. Thompson missed the +1 cut line by four strokes that ended her week and a difficult season.

Maja Stark

If Lexi’s exit was sad, Maja Stark’s was stunning. The Swede is one of the game’s most elite players and ranked 15th in the world. She is also the reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion. So, everyone expected her to contend for the title. And no one expected her to be fighting to make it to the weekend.

But in a strange twist, Stark’s scores were identical to Thompson’s. She posted a 1-over 71 on Thursday, and this put her on the same dangerous cut line. Then, she buckled under pressure with a 4-over-74 the next day. Stark’s 5-over 145 total left her T92 with Thompson and missed the cut by four strokes.

But these three were not the only stars to pack their bags. The +1 cut line claimed many other world-class victims. England’s Lottie Woad, the world’s 10th-ranked player, finished at three-over. Japan’s Akie Iwai (No. 22) and Ayaka Furue (No. 24) both missed by a single stroke. They finished at two-over-par. America’s Megan Khang (No. 34) also ended her week at two-over.
