Tiger Woods may be known for his 82 professional wins in the world of golf, but he is also known for his will to win every time. The fierce competitiveness is what has been a driving force in the success of the golfer. However, Tiger once tried to instill the same mindset into his son Charlie, who was only 5 years old at the time.

Back in 2014, Woods didn’t have the best season. After competing at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, Tiger got injured and was out until June of that year. While undergoing back surgery, the 15-time Major winner decided to spend some quality time with his children and his then-girlfriend, Lindsey Vonn.

Though he didn’t have a full swing during his recovery period, Tiger did have some putting sessions with his children. However, instead of going easy, the golfer decided to instill competitiveness in his children just like the way his father did with him.

Tiger Woods passes on the wisdom to his children

While he was recovering from injury, Tiger didn’t make any public appearance. He didn’t even attend the Champions Dinner at the Masters that year, as he spent most of his time in the Bahamas. However, the 46-year-old did write a long blog about what he has been up to in the past few weeks.

The blog contained many stories out of which, one included a putting contest with his son Charlie. Woods wrote in the blog, “I have my greens running about 13 on the Stimpmeter every day, so your feel has to be a little better. When we were in the Bahamas, the greens were much slower and he almost beat me”.

Nonetheless, Tiger Woods didn’t let his 5-year-old son have an easy win. Instead, he used the same mindset his father Earl used, while Woods was young. “If Sam and Charlie beat me, they’re going to earn it. That’s how Pop was with me, and I think that’s how it should be”, Tiger mentioned in the anecdotes.

Early Woods was known to be quite tough on the 15-time Major winner. Nonetheless, his ruthless training tactics are likely responsible for much of Woods’ legendary competitive aura. If it wasn’t for his father, one may have never seen the great golfing abilities of Tiger. With Charlie too undergoing the same learnings, we may see the next Tiger Woods soon enough.
