Tiger Woods made an excuse to escape a golf event

The golf legend is known for his strong principles and discipline on the field. But there was a time when Woods acted a little strange and escaped a tournament to make time for his secret hobby, which was spearfishing. It was in 2002 when Tiger Woods already had a few major victories to his name.

However, there was another tune-up event that the golfer was scheduled to play, and it was the Western Open in Chicago. But unfortunately, he withdrew before the game. According to the source, Woods withdrew from the tournament citing an unspecified illness. But everything turned out different when writer Wright Thompson revealed a surprising angle later.

“I accidentally found out, because I was talking to all the people he spearfishes with,” Thompson said. “Dude was like, ‘man, he wasn’t sick, he was spearfishing with me.’…I talked to the captain of the boat and the dive master, and they were like, ‘he wasn’t sick, he was on our boat spearfishing.'” And that’s how Woods lost the golden chance of winning all four majors during the year.

After explicitly using a golf cart at the JP McManus Pro-Am recently, Woods has declined any further use of a cart after his return. According to a tweet by Dan Rapaport, Woods said, “Can’t take a cart. This isn’t fantasy golf.”.
