It appears the ambulance yesterday was meant for Tiger Woods himself! The golfing legend had withdrawn from the 2024 Genesis Invitational owing to his suffering from influenza-like symptoms and dehydration on the course. Meanwhile, as he was rushed away while on a cart from the grounds, the emergency services were spotted in front of the gates at the Riviera Country Club. Well, it seems it was done so because the course at Riviera lacked the necessary medical care.

A tweet was shared by TWLEGION on their X handle (previously known as Twitter). The post mentioned how ESPN shared a report stating the reason behind why the “emergency services were called to Riviera yesterday.” As per reports shared, it was done so because “no IVs were available on-site” for the 82-time PGA Tour champ.

Unfortunate! What else can be used to dub the situation of the golfer as he confirmed his absence from the rest of the third signature event on the 2024 PGAT calendar! I would like to confirm that I had to withdraw from @thegenesisinv due to illness, which we now know is influenza,” said the pro in a tweet later on. Adding on, he said, “I am resting and feeling better,” before going ahead to express his disappointment at withdrawing from the tournament.

Although there weren’t any IVs at Riviera Country Club, it was the prompt action of the officials that helped provide the necessary and immediate medical attention to the professionals. Thus, it made sense when he conveyed his gratitude towards the tourney after confirming his extended absence from the same: want to thank @GenesisUSA and all the fans for the support.”

Interestingly, there were also rumors of another athlete coming down with an illness following Woods’s withdrawal from the event. However, speculations of withdrawal were soon brushed aside when the golfer was disqualified from the tournament following an incorrect scorecard on the fourth hole. Yes, we are talking about Jordan Spieth himself.

The American pro accidentally signed the card for a par score while he had made a bogey on the greens. This led to the rules of the circuit disqualifying him from the same. Meanwhile, Woods couldn’t even finish halfway through his 2024 PGAT debut, which he himself was hosting after the sixth hole and a tee shot on the seventh. Could you name a more unfortunate pair?

Nevertheless, both athletes took it in stride. Although the 15-time major champ shared his tweet a while later following his withdrawal, Spieth was quick to do so after his disqualification. “Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area,” said the pro before continuing, “Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility.”

It’s no wonder the two are some of the most loved golfers on Tour. The sportsmanship they exude on and off the course has led them to garner many fans in the community. Well, going forward, one can hope they, especially the 30-year-old, manage to learn from his mistake and prevent himself from signing an incorrect scorecard in the future.
