Amid the controversies, the LIV Golf Invitational Series has begun its second tournament in Portland. Although new players replaced some players from the inaugural event, Phil Mickelson is still part of the field. And he would have wished he didn’t take part in this week’s event after facing a harsh comment from a fan!

The second leg of the LIV Golf Invitational Series began on June 30, and the 48 players have finished their first round. And Mickelson had to listen to the worst criticism of his career.

“Tiger would have made it,” an audience member commented after Lefty failed to make a putt at No. 6 for a birdie. As a person who has always been compared and kept a professional rivalry with Tiger Woods, the comment must have hurt Mickelson. 

Both of the golfers are two of the best of all time. Ever since Woods turned professional, the duo had been in a battle with each other to prove their upper hand over the other. They even engage in trash talks to make things interesting.

Notably, Woods has won 100+ titles worldwide, including 15 majors in his 26 years career. Meanwhile, Lefty has won 50+ titles, including 6 majors, throughout his 30 years of professional life.

Phil Mickelson at the LIV Golf Invitational Series

The Portland event is Mickelson‘s third time playing in an official tournament after making a comeback following his 4-month hiatus. And After the first round, he holds the T30 position on the leaderboard by scoring a 75.

Notably, the golfer hasn’t been able to take his best performance since he made his comeback. At his comeback at the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Series, Lefty scored an overall 10-over par and finished in the T33 position.

On the other hand, Mickelson couldn’t even make a cut at the U. S. Open, the second tournament since his comeback. He scored an overall 11-over par from the first two rounds.

“Tiger could have made it!” Although the comment might have made Mickelson’s day miserable, majority of the fans agreed to it.
