The veteran Phil Mickelson is a pre-eminent player. The charisma and confidence that he brings to the field are unparallel. Definitely, there are other qualities that have little to do with golfing skills for which the golfer is famous. But, it is his distinct style and resilient drive during the game that shouts shotgun when it comes to describing Mickelson as a golfer.

One such term that is most often than not associated with the six-time major winner is the golf short game. His game near the greens is just considered exceptional. Maybe that is why Jon Rahm was noticed conversing with the golfer. On the greens, just a day before the 123rd US Open, an interesting video surfaced on the internet. It featured Rahm and Mickelson with golf clubs in their hands and some powerful turf in their line of vision. In the clip uploaded by GOLF.com, the Lefty can be witnessed giving a lesson on how to chip the golf ball on such dense greens. He said, “What I do is I open the face okay? But at impact I let it release so it doesn’t slide off the face. So, if I go through instead of holding it through, I just let it square up. So that it catches enough ball.

Just like some of us, Rahm wasn’t exactly sure what those lines represented. The technique isn’t easy to comprehend, after all, it seems. Hence, the Spanish golfer let his curiosity get the best of him. He asked Mickelson if it means that he just changed the bottom of the arc, closer to the ball. Lefty replied that he isn’t changing anything, just letting the shot release.

With the help of the back-and-forth dialogue, we can see Rahm getting some idea of what the 52-year-old is saying. He even strikes the ball twice and it appears that the Spaniard is catching up slightly. In the middle of this interaction getting viral, fans could not stop themselves from being part of it through the online platform.

The golf community reacts to the exchange between the golf stars as one fan reminisces about Tiger Woods

Where Mickelson’s short game is considered “magic“, Tiger Woods‘ game on the greens is close to prodigious. It is not fair to compare the two as both individuals are extraordinary in their own manner. They bring a unique set of skills to the game and shoot up its excitement. However, Tiger’s absence from the tournament is hard to miss and fans desire to see him again tame the greens.

In accordance with the same, one of the fans commented, “Tiger would never“. Not sure what the user was exactly referring to. Maybe, Tiger’s lesson would have been easier to comprehend. Irrespective of the intention behind the comment, one thing is for sure, Tiger Woods cannot be kept out of the conversation where a short game is involved. In fact, recently he imparted his wisdom regarding the shot to Scottie Scheffler during a casual game.

Despite this majority of the fans believed that Mickelson was a “Short game genius. Additionally, a lesson before the major solidifies the game for Jon Rahm. Fans tweeted-

A couple of fans even chimed in to show appreciation for this incredible interaction. It proves that golfers value the idea of community and growth within the game.
