Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari Take Charge as Captains in the Inaugural DP World Tour Event

The golf world has been shocking the fans ever since the LIV Golf league came into existence. All other leagues and tours have been struggling to stay in competition with the new league. And fans are always curious to know everything new that is going on in the sport. However, a new update from the DP World Tour has come as a surprise to the fans.

DP World Tour announced the captains for the upcoming Ryder Hero Cup

After a long wait, the DP World Tour has finally announced the names of the captains for next year’s Hero Cup. and they are none other than Ryder Cup heroes, Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari. The duo received love from fans due to their performance in the 2018 Ryder Cup in France. They even earned the nickname ‘Moliwood’ for their commendable pair.

However, the two are now all set to be captains of rival teams. The two will lead the respective Great Britain and Ireland and Continental Europe teams in the upcoming Hero Cup. The tournament is scheduled to be held from 13-15 January at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Fleetwood and Molinari will have the responsibility to select nine players each for their teams to make a ten-man line-up including themselves.

Although the captains have been already announced, the teams will be decided early next month working alongside Luke Donald presiding over the tournament as the 2023 European Ryder Cup captain. European Ryder Cup Director and the DP World Tour’s Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, Guy Kinnings, announced the two captains. He said“I am delighted to confirm Tommy and Fran as captains for the Hero Cup – they will unquestionably bring so much to the role.”

19-year-old golfer earned Tour card

Tom McKibbin, a 19-year-old golf star, is being compared to golf legend Rory McIlroy after he earned his DP World Tour card at such a young age. He recently played a spectacular final round at the Challenge Tour Grand Final and earned his Tour membership in style. He even finished in the top 10 for the eighth time. And by doing so, McKibbin is now the youngest player to reach the pedestal after McIlroy.

The golfer was being compared with northern Irishman McIlroy after his achievement. But the players said he wasn’t bothered by it. “I try and stay out of it, don’t listen to any of that. Being compared [to Rory] is obviously a huge honor,” he said. In fact, being compared to McIlroy is something not many players would mind.
