Golf has been a gentleman’s game, and in the past few months, we have seen the golfers defying the odds to prove it. Tommy Fleetwood, who made his resilience and hard work pay off, made a shocking revelation about his family. The golfer, when asked a personal question during the Tour Championship, shared it, but only after taking permission. What a gentleman!

During the pre-tournament press conference, Fleetwood was asked about his family’s absence. Before revealing the reason, he looked at his wife for permission to share, and after approval, left everyone shocked. He said, “Yeah, so our middle boy, Mo, had a spinal operation just over a month ago now. So they were unable to travel. Actually, the week of Memphis, they were in the hospital, and he was recovering, and they actually just got home before we got home. He had 3 1/2 weeks, I think, in the hospital.” The personal life struggle came out only when asked and got permission from his wife. The golfer, who values his family and credits them as the “biggest supporters.”

Fleetwood’s family includes his wife, Clare, son Frankie, and stepsons, Oscar and Murray, who have been seen supporting the golfer during his performance. Even the family was in support during the Travelers Championship when the Englishman finished runner-up after leading three rounds.

Now, with his family’s revelation, the golfer’s video was shared by Jamie Kennedy of Golf Digest, praising him. The post caption read, “Credit to Tommy. Didn’t make this public until he was asked about it yesterday, but his win at the @TourChamp came while his step-son was in the hospital. (See him here asking his wife if it was ok to share…)” Fleetwood and his wife, Clare, apart from their personal relationship, have a true partnership as well. The duo, since 2015, have been working together, as Clare stood as the manager for the Englishman, helping him with the crucial decisions in his professional career. Well, even though Clare wasn’t available at the time of the victory, the golfer made sure to celebrate the win at home.

He shared his type of celebration. Fleetwood said, “My form of celebration was just kind of being with my family and everyone.” The most-awaited PGA Tour victory after 164 events was a moment to cherish, and for him, being able to stay with the family and enjoy that was a substantial form of celebration. In fact, despite the whole sports universe, including Tiger Woods, Caitlin Clark, LeBron James, and others, congratulated him. He shared the moment that touched him the most.

During the press conference, he was asked whether any words of praise from top professionals touched him. For which he said, “I think the whole thing touched me more than anything, more than any particular person.” Furthermore, when asked for a specific instance or person, he spoke about his family. The golfer quoted, “As usual, I think the reactions from my family, my closest people, and I think just having the opportunity to — I think more than anything, like again, it’s easy to tell the kids the right thing all the time.” The story of grit and resilience has finally paid off for the golfer, and with his family eager to see him win, the reaction left him touched.

Even he set the example for his kids as he continued further, “But again, being an example that it can happen for you if you keep going, I think more than anything, it was like, I had the opportunity to show my kids what can happen, and then, like you can do it. So I think that was the most important thing to me. That was the thing that touched me the most.” Setting up the example for the kids who missed the chance to attend the tournament left the golfer touched, apart from all the great appreciation he received from the sports universe.

Even after a week, Tommy Fleetwood is now turning heads with his family-first approach. In fact, that is the reason why he is the fans’ favorite with his approach. Well, making an appearance in front of the home crowd, it will be interesting to see how the crowd will roar in support of him at the BMW PGA Championship.
