Golfers cherish all victories, but some of them stay with them forever, especially when they involve family. Remember how Scottie Scheffler’s 14-month-old son, Bennett, toddled toward his father on the 18th green at the 153rd Open Championship? Or Rory McIlroy’s celebrations with wife Erica and daughter Poppy after the 2025 Masters triumph. Tommy Fleetwood’s win at the inaugural 2025 DP World India Championship was one of those. It wasn’t just another addition to his growing list of titles. It was a promise fulfilled.

Fleetwood’s son Frankie was born in 2017, and the Englishman has had several wins since then. However, this was the first time he captured a title with Frankie there to witness it. The media asked the 8-time DP World Tour winner about winning the tournament in front of Frankie. To this, the 2025 Tour Championship winner revealed an emotional reason that pushed him to victory. “We were at home last week, and we were driving the buggy. I think we were playing golf together, and he just said randomly, do you know what you’ve never done? He said, ‘You’ve never won a tournament and I’ve been able to run on to the 18th green.’ I was like, ‘I’m writing that down,'” said Fleetwood.
It was this very reason that motivated him to come from behind and seal the victory. He fired a 7 under par 65 to finish at 22 under par 266 to win the title. His impressive back-to-back birdies on holes 7,8,9, and 10 sealed the deal for the English golfer. With 8 birdies and a bogey in the final round, Fleetwood completed 2 strokes ahead of Keita Nakajima, who was leading at the end of Round 3.

In just a week, the father has fulfilled his son’s wish. The DP World Tour shared a video on X, with the caption, “Tommy and Frankie Fleetwood.” Frankie is seen running on the green towards Fleetwood in the video. The duo shared a heartfelt hug, and it ended with Fleetwood kissing Frankie on the cheeks.

While this was a fulfilling moment, Fleetwood hopes to have many more like it. “I was like, ‘I’m writing that down.’ I had that written down all week. Like I say, it was just another opportunity, really. There’s going to be many more times where I hopefully get the chance to do that. But all day today, I had in my mind, could I put myself in a position where I could actually make that moment happen? It’s just one of those little things that means a lot to me. It means so much to me. That was really cool. That’s what I wanted to do all day,” said Fleetwood.
It’s no wonder Fleetwood wants to experience moments like this again. These are the kinds of memories that make a victory even more meaningful for any golfer. Moments like this become a source of motivation, especially for someone like Tommy. Fleetwood admitted this even before the start of the DP World India Championship. When he was practicing before the event, Fleetwood said how much Frankie loves the game and enjoys being around the golf course. He also said how much of a source of inspiration and motivation little Frankie is for the 34-year-old Englishman.
Besides the motivation from his son, Fleetwood’s victory was also a result of the effort put in trying to fix a key issue in his game.

Tommy Fleetwood fixed a key issue in his game
Fleetwood began working with renowned coach Butch Harmon, who also coached the legendary Tiger Woods, in 2023. The key issue Harmon found in Fleetwood’s swing was that when he lengthened his backswing, he “collapsed at the top” and got “too close to the head,” narrowing his downswing. This caused erratic ball flights and frequent left misses. Thankfully, Harmon had a tested solution.
Harmon applied a method he previously used with Tiger Woods. It was a “top-and-stop” drill where the player paused at the top of the backswing before completing the motion. The drill was grueling and repetitive, but it trained Fleetwood to maintain width and avoid collapsing his spine during transition. After spending several months training on this, the result appeared during the 2025 Tour Championship. Harmon noted that his shots “were pin high all the time,” consistently landing on “the proper side of the green.” The precision yielded Fleetwood’s long-awaited first PGA Tour win. The same precision helped Fleetwood emerge victorious at the Delhi Golf Club, too.
Fleetwood’s victory in India was a moment of pure connection between father and son. For a player driven by family and passion, that embrace on the 18th green may stand as the most meaningful win of his career.
