Tommy Fleetwood entered the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai after a stellar 2025 season. He won his first PGA Tour title this year, with the Tour Championship. He also won the FedEx Cup before helping the European team to win the 2025 Ryder Cup. Then he was runner-up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship after going to India and conquering the DP World India Championship. But sometimes the scorecards and leaderboards don’t tell the whole story of a golfer’s day. And these past three days at the DP World Tour Championship have been that for the Englishman.

Currently playing at the ongoing season finale at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tommy Fleetwood hit a four under par, 68 in Round 3. “Yeah, solid and steady. It’s been frustrating. I went through a period yesterday, I eagled the second, such a frustrating day. I played so well and not going to say I was dreadful on greens. The results were poor. I just didn’t hole anything, and I couldn’t get it right yesterday,” Fleetwood said about his round of 68 on Day 3.

The DP World India Championship winner was talking about his round on Day 2 when asked about Day 3 because of how the scorecard looks. Looking specifically at the numbers, his Day 2 appears to be very bad. He finished just one under, 71. He had made 98 consecutive holes with just one bogey after the 1st round, which was bogey-less.
In Round 2, he had only one bogey, which came on hole 12. On top of that, he had an excellent start. He made an eagle on hole 2. Despite all that, he ended the day with 1 under par because he didn’t make any birdies except for the eagle on hole 2. Reflecting on the same, Fleetwood said, “Yesterday was a really disappointing and frustrating day for the way that I played, and started off and made a good par save on 1, 2, missed it short, birdie. Lipout on 3. Overall, really solid. Best thing to look at, no real mistakes out there.”
On the contrary, his Round 3 was four under par. He made birdies on holes 5, 7, 10, and 15. This sounds like a bad Day 2 for a golfer who started the event with 7 under par, right? Not to Tommy Fleetwood. The English golfer says that he played much better golf on Day 2 than on Day 3. “It’s bunched. It’s really, really bunched. Just a couple days where I felt like I had to stay really, really patient. I played so much better yesterday than I did today. I didn’t feel like I had my game quite today,” Tommy Fleetwood said.

Although the numbers show that Fleetwood’s performance on Day 3 was better, the golfer says it wasn’t. He feels that he could have made more birdies today. For instance, on hole 5, he made a putt from a distance of 25 feet and five inches. However, on par 3 hole 4, he missed a putt from 20 feet six inches. The same goes for hole 6. His tee shot landed close to 15 feet from the hole. But he missed the birdie by hitting it 16 feet and two inches. On hole 13, too, he missed an 18-foot putt opportunity. It’s not easy to putt from a distance of 15 or 20 feet. However, Tommy Fleetwood, who has played the best golf of his career this summer, feels that he could have scored birdies on those holes on Day 3.
Tommy Fleetwood has always faced problems with his putts. While his driving game is exceptional, he can win more titles by improving his putting skills.

Tommy Fleetwood’s putting challenges
While Fleetwood showed frustration with his putting at the DP World Tour Championship, he faced similar problems at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as well. He narrowly lost in a playoff to Aaron Rai, where he was even accused of gamesmanship. Although he had genuine reasons to be a little late, all the drama could have been avoided if the Englishman had not missed critical putts on hole 18 in the last round.
Before that, he faced some similar problems at the 2025 Travelers Championship. On the 72nd hole, he was just six feet and eight inches away from the hole. However, he missed it, and Keegan Bradley won the title. “I’m upset now, I’m angry,” Fleetwood said afterward.

Tommy Fleetwood himself admitted that he tends to miss opportunities on Sunday. “I also think in Memphis, again, you look at the most recent one, I did so many good things. I putted so well,” Fleetwood said during an interview at the Tour Championship. He further added, “I scrambled when I had to. I played well on that Sunday and took control of the tournament again with three holes to go, and I didn’t hit the shots that were required to finish the tournament off.”
This shows that Tommy Fleetwood’s driving is better than his putting skills. And it’s not that his putting is too bad, either. However, his history shows that sometimes he cannot convert good starts into victories on Sundays. Hopefully, he will play better on Sunday at the DP World Tour Championship and increase his chances of winning the season finale.
