Viktor Hovland is a Norwegian golfer who turned pro in 2019. The 24-year-old joined PGA Tour in 2020 and has three titles under his hood. By winning the 2021 BMW International Open, he established his presence in the DP World Tour.

Recently, he competed at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship conducted by the DP World Tour and finished at T4. This led to Hovland’s promotion to the 5th position in the Official World Golf Rankings. He ranks just after the American golfer Dustin Johnson

Although Viktor is not the first golfer to achieve this milestone, he made history by becoming the tenth golfer, under the age of 25, to rank in the top 5 list.

Viktor Hovland joined Tiger Woods and others on the list.

The first player to achieve this milestone was the Spanish golfer Jose Maria Olazabal. The now 55-year-old, golfer joined PGA Tour in 2000 and PGA Tour Champions in 2016. He had won the Masters title two times, in 1994 and 1999.

It won’t be accurate if there is a record in golf and Tiger Woods’ name is not included in it. Tiger became world no. 1 while he was 21 years and 167 days old. He is the youngest to achieve this milestone, and nobody could break the record ever since. Tiger also holds the record of holding first place for most consecutive weeks; He has spent 683 weeks as the world no. 1.

Rory McIlroy is the second youngest to reach this position; He was 22 years and 312 days old. Although the 24-year-old Viktor couldn’t break the record of Tiger or Rory, he became the tenth golfer, under 25, to be included in the Top 5 list of OWGR since its inception.
