The American pair of athletes had reached Japan in a bid to duke it out against each other and a set of 76 other golfers for a prize purse of $2 million. However, when asked about their trips in an interview ahead of the competition, the professionals went ahead to share their different experiences in the country despite their varying number of visits.

In a press conference before the tournament, Rose Zhang mentioned how her “trip to Japan” has been “incredible.” Adding on to her response, the 20-year-old recalled the “good vibes” she experienced when the 1x LPGA Tour champ visited the country in 2019. However, coming back to the present, the 2023 Mizuho Americas Open winner indicated how she has been able to “eat Japanese food, see the Japanese culture, and just walk around,” all the while alluding to how “refreshing” it really was.

However, in the presser with Kang, she was especially vocal about the kind of food available in Japan. The 31-year-old was visibly happy when she mentioned how the prospect of choosing what she feels like eating, such as fish, while putting aside food such as red meat “is kind of nice.” Moreover, the 6X LPGA Tour winner was quick to point out how she also doesn’t like “flour-based food” or “buckwheat.” But even so, the 1X major champ did express her love for coming to Japan as she recalled how one can “make your own little sauce,” which is nothing short of “awesome.”

Kang has not managed to garner any wins in 2023. However, she has been able to put up an amazing showcase of skills on the greens, as the professional managed a total of three top-10 finishes over the year, including a runner-up position at the Aramco Team Series Singapore.

However, the 20-year-old rising star was able to clinch a win at the 2023 Mizuho Americas Open by scoring a 9-under 279. Moreover, excluding the same, she has a total of four top-10 finishes, the best coming from a T3 at the Maybank Championship that ended a little while back.
