She received immense popularity after she bid goodbye to professional golf and retired in 2016. Today she is an internet queen with over 11 million followers across social media platforms. However, becoming an internet sensation was different from her goal. She wanted to be a golfer, but things went south. She felt she did not fit in and therefore quit professional golf.

In light of that, she tried taking professional help from sports psychologists, but that did not work either. Then how did Spiranac get hold of her mental health? Two years ago, she revealed her mentally exhausting journey and the one thing that helped her stay in the “present moment.” Let’s find out.

How did Paige Spiranac tackle her mental health issues?

Golf beauty, Spiranac runs a podcast, ‘Playing a Round With Paige Renee,’ where she shares her life experiences. In 2020, during one of the episodes, she was asked about tips to tackle mental health, especially in the sports area. Her response was heartbreaking. She replied, “I have seen more sports psychologists than you will ever know. I have tried everything and anything.” She quoted this in an old YouTube video covering the same subject matter. Her whole life has been traumatized, and she had to seek help.

She then shared the tricks that let her stay in the present moment and calm her mind. “When you’re behind this imaginary visible line, you’re in your think box. So, this is where you check the wind; you pick your club, you’re doing your practice swings.” According to her, every time one goes to play golf on the course, they are in an imaginary box of their own. That is a safe place where a golfer plans their shots, practices swings, and does whatever a golfer requires.

And the next moment, when a golfer is on the golf course, playing in an event, that is a play box. If one is under that box, they only think about the upcoming shot and scoring well. Explaining her experience, Spiranac said, “And then, as soon as you’re ready to go, you cross that invisible line, and you’re in the play box. You’re not thinking of anything else other than the shot at hand.” According to her, when one is in the play box, they only need to focus on playing because that is what she did.

How is Spiranac doing mentally now?

Despite the dark phases of life, Spiranac did not stop herself from achieving her goals. She took professional help soon, and now she is happier. She believes that she has made considerable changes in her life, which were possible only because she took the right step and underwent therapy sessions. And for the first time, she felt rejuvenated and said, “I could not have made that change without going to therapy and growing from all of those experiences.”
