The PGA Tour of America may have finished its schedule for this year, but in many other countries, the golf season is still continuing. And one of them is Australia. This week, the country is hosting the Australian PGA Championship, where big names from Australian golf are participating. 

But the competition is tough. This is because one of the top names, Cameron Smith, who was appearing as the defending champion, wasn’t able to make the cut. After this devastating loss, fans are full of sympathy for him.

The Australian PGA Championship is going on since November 22 at the Royal Queensland GC course by the banks of the Brisbane River. The prize money is around AU$2 million. This week, the golf pride of Australia, Cameron Smith appeared as defending champion, with high hopes to repeat his feat of last year. But unfortunately for him, he missed the cut after the second round. 

Smith became emotional after the round finished. When asked by the media about his performance, he said, “No words. It was s—. I’ve performed under pressure before. It’s not acceptable. It’s very upsetting, actually.” Meanwhile, 25-year-old Min Woo Lee is a leading name at the event. Yesterday, he delivered the first round of an impressive 64. Today, he is -5 under par.

As for Smith, he gave the first round of two-over 73. He missed the cut by nine shots with a tie for 147th. He said that he gets a bit tired towards the end of the year, but that’s really no excuse. “Australia has been so good to me, even when I have been tired. There’s no reason to perform that way. I hope I can get it together for next week and put up at least a better showing than this week.” 

 

But fans are sympathising with their favorite player. Many also feel that his shift to LIV Golf from the PGA Tour is not doing him any good. His admirers think that he is not performing well outside the Saudi tour and it has left him demotivated.

Fans blame LIV Golf for Smith’s failure

Next week, Smith is participating in the Australian Open in Sydney, and fans are hoping that he will be able to do well there. This fan believes that Smith will figure out his game by then, but he was not very cordial towards Woo. Replying to him, the admin did a little wordplay,I see what you Min. Cam back next week then.”

Cameron Smith was full of disappointment. He was devastated with his performance on the greens. This fan felt sympathy towards him and noticed his turmoil.

One fan feels that his failure of not making the cut is nothing but a bad week. He is just lacking the “sharp edge” in his performance, which is usually there. The fan also mentioned that Smith is rich, so it’s not that bad.

Smith has been playing on LIV Golf for some time now. Fans who are not happy with it feel that the league has left a negative effect on him.

Another fan who resents LIV Golf said that the motivation Smith has got from there is absolutely worthless and is not working for him.

As for Min Woo Lee, he is delighted with his performance. He said, “I felt like I didn’t leave much out there and it was a very solid round.” Two more rounds remain and Sunday, November 26 will determine the final winner.
