The golf world stood still when Rowan McCarthy did something that even golf legend Tiger Woods couldn’t. It was at Perth’s Wembley Golf Course in January when McCarthy made a record that not even the greatest golfer in the world could ever do on the field. Nothing less than a miracle, his friends referred to it as the “holebatross”.
Rowan McCarthy’s unbelievable record that even Tiger Woods couldn’t outdo
McCarthy refers to himself as one lucky man. However, it required more than just luck looking at what he did at the Wembley Golf Club on January 5. With a 20 handicap score, it was next to impossible to even imagine for the golfer.

The Australian was playing a tough round filled with bogeys throughout his game. After a triple bogey on the par-4 11th, things seemed to be out of his hands. However, the next thing he knew was that his 7-iron punched a 169-meter-long shot. And to everyone’s surprise, the ball, which was headed for the pin, suddenly vanished.
No one knew where it went until one of his playing partners went to check and screamed that it was indeed in the hole. In an interview with Golf Digest, McCarthy said, “I was waiting for him to say, ‘No, that’s a joke.’… But he wasn’t and we all just started jumping up and down. I think the whole golf course probably heard us”.

The next few shots were merely hit for the sake of it. And it was visible on the next two holes as he made a double and triple bogey. However, his friends got to witness another miracle soon after that. On the 15th hole, the mechanical engineer shot using a 5-iron and it resulted in the ball banking short left and rushing towards the hole. What did he get next? A super rare albatross!
What was McCarthy’s reaction to hitting an albatross?
In disbelief of his own hits, McCarthy said, “It is truly unbelievable. I’m really proud of it.” It was like a timelapse as everything happened within the span of just 5 holes. Hitting an albatross is pretty hard, and many golfers have fallen short of it. And it can be imagined noting that even golf star Tiger Woods, even after all his amazing performances, hasn’t scored one yet.

McCarthy was able to get his name registered as the 2nd person to make such a fantastic double record. His credentials were recorded on doubleeagle.org which keeps a track of golfers responsible for similar man-made miracles.
