The 2024 Genesis Invitational is turning out to be a banger! It is the third signature event of the year and it is proving too hot to handle for some of the best golfers in the world. One of those golfers is Tiger Woods, who is making his season start at this event. Furthermore, he is also the host of the event, so his not making the cut will be disastrous.

Is Tiger Woods safe from the cutting line?

After the first round, Patrick Cantlay emerged on top of the leaderboard with a one-stroke lead on the field. However, at the time of writing, Jason Day had claimed the top spot, with Luke List following behind and Patrick Cantlay saw himself trickled down to third place. But almost every golf fan is looking at the performance of the event’s host.

As the second round is currently underway, Cantlay has once again found himself at the top of the leaderboard. Jason Day and Mackenzie Hughes have also climbed the leaderboard ladder and are currently tied for second place alongside List.

Tiger Woods is returning to the greens after months, but he did not get the start he wanted. He carded a 1-over 72 for his first round, with one terrible shank at Riviera Country Club. At the time of writing, he is just over the projected cut line of +1. So to ensure playing on the weekend, the 48-year-old must improve upon his score!

He must be looking to get rid of the 1-over shot and again find a comfortable spot over the cutting line. However, some other players are also way below the projected cut line and would be looking for a miracle.

Apart from Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas are also too close to the cutting line. They both are currently tied with the event host with a score of 1-over 72.

Unfortunately, after a disappointing opening round score of 3-over, Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick can consider himself to be out of contention for a place at the tournament this weekend. Kevin Yu will also be joining him with a disappointing first-round 7-over.

Nick Dunlap is also having a horrible start to his professional career, as he is below the projected cut line after the first round with a score of 3 over par. Other players sitting below the line are Taylor Montgomery, Seamus Power, Adam Schenk, Alex Smalley, Grayson Murray, and Nick Hardy.
