Team USA seems to be losing its luck at the 2024 Presidents Cup. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele gave the International team a tough time, and the Jim Furyk squad scored a 5-0 on Thursday. However, the tables had completely turned at the Friday fourballs. This time, it was the Mike Weir team that scored in all the holes. After the event almost halfway through, both the teams are tied with a score of 5-5.

In the past few editions, it has been the American team that has dominated the event. They have won twelve times at the Presidents Cup, while the International team has won only once. In the opening round, the dream of being able to grab the second win was almost fading. However, after the Friday round, looks like there are chances, only if the team continues the same momentum on Saturday.

The Presidents Cup does not have any prize money at stake for the winning team. Despite that, why does it mark out to be such an important victory for the players?

The real reason why the Presidents Cup is so prestigious

Pretty much like the Ryder Cup, the professional golfers play the tournament to represent their nation or region. They also do it for the love of the game. Even the top players are not paid to take part in the event. However, all the players who take part in the Presidents Cup can allocate an equal share of the funds that are generated through the event to their choice of charities.

As per the records stated on the official website of the Presidents Cup, a total of $56.4 million has been generated since its inception in 1994. Additionally, they will also be getting 30 points to play at the tournament. The winning team must, therefore, amass 15.5 points to clinch the trophy. Do you think the International team will finally be able to grab a victory after almost two decades? Stay tuned to find out!
