There is hardly any evening more prestigious in the world of sports than the Champions Dinner on the eve of the Masters. The dinner takes place at the Augusta National, where all the golfers with Green Jackets are invited. Feeding the legendary Masters winners is no regular feast and requires a huge balance in the bank account. Let’s take a look at the insights that the two-time Masters winner, Bernhard Langer shared shared regarding what it means to pay the bill for the Champions Dinner.

The historical dinner is kept on the eve of the Masters, during which the winner of the previous year’s event gets to decide the menu of the dinner. The list of invited men includes the winners of all the previous year’s Masters winners, arriving at the feast with the Green Jacket.

Earlier this year, legendary German golfer, Bernhard Langer shared his Augusta National Experience in a personal blog. In the sixth installment, Langer talked about the traditional dinner.

What did Bernhard Langer make other Masters winners eat?

Langer had the opportunity to host two dinners for his wins in 1985 and 1993. In the blog, the German golfer wrote about his menu for his two hosted dinners. At his first dinner, Langer proposed his favorite German dish, Sauerbraten, to be at the table.

The 65-year-old claimed it was his favorite dish then provided details on the cooking of the meat that requires “red cabbage and an incredibly delicious dumpling known as spaetzle”. For dessert, Langer decided to feed fellow champions with the Black Forest, reminiscing the time when his mother used to make the same in his childhood.

At the 1994 Champions dinner, during his second time hosting, Bernhard Langer went with the regular Thanksgiving meal. The dinner was loaded with Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and much more. The German golfer stated that he paid a tribute to the American tradition, with that menu, thanking the country for becoming his home away from home.

With so much delightful and delicious food ordered by Langer, undoubtedly the bill must have been exponential.

Langer and the big fat Augusta National dinner bill

After reading about the menu, surely many may be thrusting in search of a good meal. Nonetheless, the two-time Masters winner did talk about the bill that comes after the dinner. “The bill for the two meals was quite hefty”, wrote Langer.

He added how the drinks only add more weight to the bills. Despite that, the Hall of Famer had no worrying whatsoever as he wrote, “I didn’t mind one bit”. Langer added, “I’m sure that’s how every champion feels. I remember sitting in that room the first time realizing that I was going to be part of this for the rest of my life”.

Though Langer’s recent visits at Augusta National haven’t gone beyond the second round, he still earned the lifetime invitation to the historic Major. Indeed, a win at the Masters comes with a big price to pay.
